War Song

Something's growing within me
where soul is stitched to bones;
an ancient horror eking
from my foundation stones.

I'm drowning in the darkness
and reaching for the light.
My soul can never give up
in this most holy fight.

Surrender is my triumph
but not to looming shade.
I am God's chosen daughter
and He's my shield and blade.

His words can tremble mountains,
His whispers foam the sea,
yet He came to earth and died
And set this sinner free.

How mighty a sacrifice
my Creator's blood shed,
for me, rebelling slave,
who'd otherwise be dead.

Flames of the Spirit flicker
and dance in a fierce blaze.
The inferno consumes me
with Your worship and praise.

The hottest flaming sword
is quenched before His love.
The loudest roaring lion
quiets before the dove.

Finally now I stand with God
on life's grim battlefield.
Ignorance shakes me; I wait
to see His plan revealed.

Against this Light, shadows move
with a malicious gait.
Against hope is hopelessness,
countering faith is hate.

"You are nothing, useless wretch!"
hisses a hellish beast,
"Sinful, useless, fallen fool!
You're stupid! Worthless! Least!"

My Lord stands firm, yet I quake
from personal attacks.
My God will not forsake me
to howling demon packs.

Forgiveness protects from pain
and grace shields from doubt.
While the truthful words bring hurt,
God's mercy heals throughout.

His love stands through the assault,
relentless and robust,
pressing me onward, forward,
to fight for what is just.

Love changed me back from feral
and pulled me from the grave.
It urges me to follow,
obey, learn, and behave.

The battle's already won
because God overcomes
all misanthropic evil.
The unholy He shuns.

Eternal life is God's gift
to those who will believe.
All have fallen short of Him,
but grace they can receive.

Life for life is His trade:
He came to die for us.
This gift is offered freely,
There's no room for distrust.

Since I surrendered my life
I have felt more at ease.
This peacefulness is no trap,
The comfort’s not a tease.

I know my God is living;
I know he lives in me.
I want to shout out His praises
And worship endlessly.
